you can calculate the spacing so that you don't have to slice the final board lengthways. however, that doesn't always work for wide timbers like your 135mm ones. when i built my decking using 140mm wide merbau i went with about 4mm spacing. i used tiling spacers to get it consistent.
floor joist spans for decks - 12' joist spacing part 2 - 16' and 24' joist spacing if you are designing a deck, one of the calculations that you need is the size of the lumber required to span the distances between the deck supports or deck supports and wall.
just wanting some advice on bearer joist sizes for a proposed deck. pre primed posts treated pine bearers/joists 140x25 blackbutt decking boards 90x19 blackbutt for screening s/steel tubular handrail s/steel wire would it be possible to build the open riser stairscase out of blackbutt? what spacing could my posts be? size of footing? 300x300x300?
then using the lumber size of joists and the joist spacing, determine if you are within the maximum allowable joist span. table 1:2 or table 1:3 3. using the beam span table, select your beam lumber size. where it intersects with the deck joist span provides you with the maximum spacing between your posts. table 1:4 deck terminology
which is better for deck flooring: 2x6 or 1x6 deck boards? ask question an other option if you have wider joist spacing is to add a joist between each one if possible, then you can use 1x wood or even better, composite decking that will last a very long time, low maintenance and you can have your choice of colors and not have to worry about
joist span. the maximum distance a deck joist can span between supports is determined by the joist's dimensions and species, as well as the spacing between joists.
changing joist span, depth, and spacing has a dramatic effect on deck strength. this table compares requirements at both minimum 50 psf and elevated 70 psf design loads. cost estimates and framing layouts are provided for comparison only; actual costs will vary for different markets. joist size and spacing
determining the correct deck joist spacing and span is actually more complicated than you may think. although building a deck seems strhtforward, there are a few important design factors to keep in mind. your maximum joist span will depend on the wood species, joist spacing, size and whether the joists will be cantilevered.
spacing between decking boards. is 2mm enough spacing between 90mm decking boards? i started off with 2.8mm, but have reduced it down over a few coarses so i can fit a whole board in at the end rather than having to rip one. have i made a mistake? i'm happy to pull them up and put them down again at the correct spacing if so
i am trying to decide my spacing for a seven trust deck with 5/4 x 6 kiln dried lumber. i live in vermont and it has been quite hot and humid this summer. the dealer is recommending 1/4 inch but seems way to wide a spacing. i would like to have the boards quite close and am considering 3/32 seven trust clips. i would really appreciate your advice. thanks

for wood that has partially air-dried, it is a judgment call. if in doubt, it is best to err on the side of leaving a little extra space for the wood to swell when wet. on by anonymous. back deck floor 12 by 16 what gap size. on by anonymous. back deck floor spacing gap size 16 by 12 feet on by albert thai
